Final Report FIBO 2008
Biggest FIBO ever sets new records

Essen. With a new record in the number of exhibitors, contracts worth millions signed and a marked increase in visitor numbers, FIBO closed in Essen on Sunday. With a total of 47,300 visitors (previous year: 45,000), the organizers Reed Exhibitions Deutschland registered an increase of 5.1 percent as compared to last year. Totalling 476 companies (previous year 420 – plus 12.8%) from 35 countries, the number of exhibitors likewise reached a new record in the history of FIBO which started in 1985. Die FIBO 2008

“The result exceeds all forecasts made during the preparatory phase,“ says happy FIBO Director Olaf Tomscheit. One contributing factor was the willingness to invest, again on the rise this year, on the part of many companies. This is particularly true for fitness studios. many of whom signed contracts worth many millions during the first two days of the show already. Suppliers in the segments wellness installations and health centres recorded a similarly positive course of business. Here, demand from both Germany and abroad also increased significantly compared to the previous year. “FIBO thus further strengthened its position as the most important industry show worldwide,“ is how Hans-Joachim Erbel, Managing Director of Reed Exhibitions Deutschland GmbH, sums up the four trade show days. Close to 70 percent of FIBO visitors operate fitness studios, physio¬therapist practices and health centres.

A conclusion also emphasized by Wolfgang Moosleitner, Sales Manager with TOGU Gebr. Obermaier oHG: “All target groups were present: physiotherapists as well as fitness studios, personal coaches and hotel chains – both national and international. Visitors came from all over the world: India, Japan as well as from all over the EU.“ This is also evident from the number of trade visitors from abroad where an increase of more than six percent could be achieved. As a result, FIBO further strengthened its international position for the third time running.

On the domestic side as well, many companies registered a growing willingness to invest after the recent strong increase in membership numbers.. “We were busy non-stop and hardly found the time to catch our breath,“ says James Andrews, Managing Director for Germany with Pulse Fitness GmbH, whose abdominal trainer “Abcoaster“ received this year’s FIBO INNOVATION AWARD as best new development in the training equipment category (information on all award winners on www.fibo.de).

According to a representative survey made at FIBO, more than 90 percent of studio operators also expect business to pick up even more in the future, only 6 percent expect a slight downturn.

Fitness enthusiasts were also well catered for: Hollywood star Ralf Moeller, the Zamek Sport Convention, the Fit for Fun Cycling Festival and a fantastic stage programme with new show acts such as ZUMBA turned out to be great crowd pullers.

In the halls occupied by the BB and weight training scene, the mood was positive, too: FIBO POWER, Germany’s biggest BB and weight training event, took place in Halls 10/11. Highlights here were not only the stage acts of eight-times Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman but also, once again, the FIBO Strongman Classics and the Powerlifting Challenge.

The next FIBO – Leading International Trade Show for Fitness and Wellness will be held in Essen from 23 to 26 April 2009.

Wolfgang Moosleitner, Sales Manager, TOGU Gebr. Obermaier oHG

“The days at the trade show were a real success for us, the visitor quality was really good. We had some new potentials, for instance from Bulgaria, Croatia, countries which were new and represented in greater strength.“
